Given the weird stuff that routinely spews forth from Oregon's state capital, Salem, some of us have long suspected that there must be something in the water. And there is:
Salem, Oregon – A health alert for young children or anyone with a vulnerable immune system: do not drink the tap water in Salem. Cyanotoxins from an algae bloom in the Detroit Reservoir have been found in the water. Making matters worse, there is a growing bottled water shortage now in the Salem area, as many try to stock up. The Statesman Journal reports the amount of bottled water is dwindling or already gone at many stores like Winco and Safeway.
SALEM, Ore. – Some Salem residents are taking advantage of the water advisory to make a profit.
On OfferUp.com, a website where people can buy and sell items, residents have posted bottled water and fresh water in Salem and the surrounding areas.
Bottled water is in high demand after the city of Salem said children, infants, pregnant mothers, those with compromised immune systems, other vulnerable people and pets should not drink the tap water Tuesday. Recent tests found low levels of cyanotoxins in the water. The city says boiling the water or using a filter won’t kill the toxins in the water.
Well, boiling may actually enhance toxicity, and most filters can't remove cyanotoxins. It'd be kind of nice if the so-called "professional journalists" could bring themselves to make such distinctions, but it seems that nobody does their freaking jobs any more.
But at least we have an explanation for the insanity bubbling out of Salem.
