NEW BERN, N.C.—Florence continued to drench the Carolinas Saturday as it lumbered across the region, claiming at least five lives and stranding hundreds of people in floodwaters.
Let them swim out on their own. Sorry, no sympathy for the "hundreds of people stranded in floodwaters". They were warned many times to get out before the storm hit, but chose not to do so. Those who choose to make poor decisions can live - or die - with the consequences.
It's one thing if they can't leave, and such individuals should be rescued when possible. But it's another thing entirely when people simply refuse. I see no point in endangering first responders due to pure pig-headedness.
