The fool who jumped off an eleventh-story balcony from a cruise ship in the Bahamas is a 27 year-old from around here. The stunt got him banned for life from the cruise line, they kicked him off the boat that very day, and he ended up having to pay a few hundred dollars to catch a flight out of Nassau.
Last week, 27-year-old Nick Naydev of Vancouver, Washington, posted a video on Instagram showing him taking one small leap for a man and one giant jump of stupidity. He plummeted 100 feet into shark-infested waters.
In addition to kicking him off and banning him for life, the cruise line is looking into pursuing legal action against him.
Oh, and as for the sharks, it apparently hadn't occurred to Nick that when cruise ships dock, they routinely dump the food waste left from thousands of passengers into the water, which is going to attract critters; it's like a giant buffet for them.
In retrospect, he notes that, yeah, he didn't really think it through. And alcohol may have been involved. But hey, who among us has not imbibed a bit more at the open bar on a cruise in the evening hours? On the other hand, who among us has jumped from an eleventh-story balcony into the ocean the next morning?
