Urban wildlife is common throughout the continent; in Portland, coyotes roam the streets at night. Food is no problem for them to locate. They're omnivores, and the amount of food people throw away helps keep the Song Dogs (a native American term for them) fat and happy. Plus, they eat lots of mice and other rodents.
There are large rats in the city, and if you see a really big one, it could just be the mayor or governor. They are usually out at night looking through peoples' wallets, hunting for more money for the city or state.
