American states are gradually re-opening. How's that going?
Oh my.
Daily new infections are at their highest level ever in many places, including California, Florida, and Texas — the three most populous states in the country, where over a quarter of Americans live. Aside from the three big states, daily cases are also surging in North Carolina, South Carolina, Utah, Arkansas, Puerto Rico, Oregon, and Alaska, and are up more modestly in other states.
In Oregon, a big hot-spot at present is in a sleepy little town south of Portland:
Two residents at Hope Village in Canby, who tested positive for COVID-19, have died. The deaths come amid an outbreak at Hope Village Post-Acute Rehab, owned by Marquis Companies, where 39 have now tested positive for the virus—eight staff members and 31 residents. With the outbreak of COVID-19 at Hope Village, Canby now has both the most total reported cases of the virus and the most per capita in Clackamas County.
It seems that even Woodburn, which is further to the south and hosts a large population of illegal aliens, is nonetheless doing better at containment than Canby.
