LOS ANGELES – The longer the COVID-19 pandemic goes on, the younger its victims get.
A new study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that the median age of people with COVID-19 in the U.S. has declined over the spring and summer, with Americans in their 20s now accounting for more cases than people in any other age group. The study was published Wednesday in the CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.
They are also very effective at passing the virus along, so avoid them whenever possible. Although COVID-19 was initially considered to primarily threaten older people and those with co-morbidity issues, those 20-somethings who actually work are more likely to be employed in high-contact environments such as restaurants; increased transmission is part of the territory. As well, the kids are often involved in high levels of social activity, which enhances the opportunities for transmission.
