The federal government has set an execution date for convicted murderer Lisa Montgomery, scheduling what will be Washington's first execution of a woman in nearly 70 years. Montgomery in 2004 strangled to death Skidmore, Missouri resident Bobbie Jo Stinnett, after which she cut open Stinnett's body and removed her unborn baby before fleeing with it.
As murders go, it must be admitted that this one was exceptionally grisly. The baby was recovered alive and returned to its father, which appears to have been the only positive event in the entire sequence.
Evidently, it has been determined that Lisa's not a candidate for reform and rehabilitation, so off to the gurney she goes.
