Yep, it's hot out there today - but it is August. Oregon "governor" Kate Brown seems to believe that we should all panic.
Oregon Gov. Kate Brown declared a heat state of emergency Tuesday after the National Weather Service predicted "dangerously hot" weather starting on Wednesday, Aug. 11.
I unloaded semi-trucks with 125-pound bales of hay in this kind of weather, back in the day.
Certainly, around 100 people have died here in the Portland area; mostly older white folks who evidently don't know that they should stay out of the sunlight and stay hydrated (I drink water). Seems to work for me, anyway. But I'm sure the governor's guidance is appreciated by the brain-dead here.
"Oregon is facing yet another extreme heat wave, and it is critical that every level of government has the resources they need to help keep Oregonians safe and healthy," Brown said in the Aug. 10 announcement. "I encourage Oregonians to take proactive steps to keep themselves and their families safe, including drinking plenty of fluids, taking advantage of cooling centers, and checking in on neighbors, friends and loved ones."
Whatever, guv.
20% of the dead around here lived in RV or mobile home parks. Must have been older models, as newer ones are supposedly well-insulated.
