Heeding cries to “defund the police,” Portland, Oregon, cut millions from its police budget. Now, a year and a half later, officials are partly restoring the cut funds. Portland's not the only city doing an about-face. https://t.co/2TUgUzZ2Wn

Well, that explains why I've not seen a squad car cruising through the neighborhood like they used to. I always enjoyed seeing them around, but they disappeared. Now I see why.
It was a city council thing; we never got to vote on it. Belatedly, the council has decided to sort of reverse course a bit:
Only in Democratic cities do you find people who honestly think that less police means less crime.

Portland has suffered a crime wave that has given them record breaking homicide rates that have not been seen since the 1980’s.

So now they're restoring about a third of what they cut out of the department in the hopes that doing so will make things all better. Once again, they're wrong. But at least they're sort of inching back toward sanity.
Now if they could hire more cops to replace the ones the city lost due to city council's idiocy, things may actually improve around here.
