Seattle State Of Mind

The organizers behind the Alki Beach Polar Bear Swim have changed their participation requirements due to the rapid spread of the omicron variant of COVID-19. None of it makes particular sense.

Swimmers dunk themselves into the Puget Sound’s chilly water each Jan. 1 in this annual tradition. The water is expected to be around 47 degrees. But this time, organizer and community activist Mark Ufkes is reportedly requiring masks at the event.

But that’s not all. Adult participants must be fully vaccinated, booster-ed, and “be in good health.”

Obviously, this is an outdoor event that involves a large amount of chilly water - expected this year to be around 47 degrees F. And quite a bit of fresh air, as well. I could almost see the vaccination part if the event was held indoors, but it's at Puget Sound. Lots of room, lots of air. After years of watching these folks, I have come to the inescapable conclusion that "community activists" are nuts.

LAKEWOOD, Wash. — Lakewood police officers said they arrested a car thief who was thwarted by slippery roads on Tuesday.

The Toyota SUV was stolen during a delivery to a coffee stand. A barista alerted Lakewood police, who followed the car to the 8600 block of Hosmer Street.

Police said the suspect slid into a tree while trying to get away, and then ran from the scene after the crash.

A K-9 was used to track the suspect, who was arrested and booked into jail.

Well what did he expect? A participation trophy?

 

The Tax-Man Cometh

(FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) — If you’re planning to rob a bank or steal something from a store, you better be ready to mark it down on your tax return come tax season. You know, unless you do the responsible thing and return it.

Yep, the federal government wants a piece of the action. According to the IRS 2021 Federal Income Tax Guide, stolen property and illegal activities fall under “income.”

According to the guide, “If you steal property, you must report its fair market value in your income in the year you steal it unless you return it to its rightful owner in the same year.”

Keep Tightening That Belt - Food Prices Jumping

The Wall Street Journal has seen the first pricing notification memo from Kraft-Heinz food group to the buying offices of major U.S. retailers.  Here’s how the WSJ presents it: “Kraft Heinz Co. told retailer customers that it would raise prices across many of its products including Jell-O pudding and Grey Poupon mustard, with some items going up as much as 20%, according to a memo viewed by The Wall Street Journal.” 

This starts kicking in in about three days. And everything's going to go up; not just mustard and Cosby pudding.

Hope you got a 20% pay raise!

Crazies Hit The Burger Joint

Five people were arrested after a group of protesters stormed a Burger King in New York on Monday night to protest the city’s COVID-19 vaccine mandates.

The mask-less protesters were filmed screaming at employees for refusing to serve them at the fast food restaurant in downtown Brooklyn around 7:30 p.m.

Cops said they were called in after the group repeatedly refused to leave.

They were all charged with trespassing and remaining unlawfully inside the Burger King.

I've been reading of late that all the COVID restrictions and associated BS are finally driving some folks right around the bend. Looks like the reports have unfortunately been accurate.

"This disturbance led to the injury of fellow passengers and Delta employees," according to Atlanta police who took the woman into custody once the plane landed and handed her over to the FBI, which is handling the case.

Federal prosecutors in Tennessee announced Tuesday that they charged a woman with interfering with a flight crew, accusing her of kicking and hitting flight attendants and screaming that she wanted to get off the plane.

The incident, aboard a Spirit Airlines flight from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to Nashville, occurred on November 27 after two airline passengers asked to change seats because a women's "disruptive behavior made them feel uncomfortable," according to a criminal complaint. A flight attendant told federal authorities that Henry — who appeared drunk — grew "irate and belligerent" once the men moved to different seats. The complaint said Henry grew even more disruptive when the flight attendants asked her to move to a different row, away from the emergency exits.
