Well, Yeah

I traveled around the country telling strangers how to better their lives—until I learned that the those offering to solve your problems are often the ones who need help.

Yes, and worse yet is that they don't recognize that fact.

 

We Only Have 12 Years!

WORLD—Climate experts have solemnly warned that we only have twelve years left until they change the dates on global warming again.

“If we don’t take action, then in 12 years we will have to explain why the world hasn’t ended and come up with a new number,” one UN scientist warned. “This is a very serious threat, and we urge everyone to hand control of the economy to the government immediately before we have no more time left to change the timeline again.”

I've been watching this moving target for 40 years or so and it's always just out of reach. It's a lot like the slot machines at a casino – the red 7’s are only off by one line, but one more pull and they will fall into place.

In the 1970s, they tried to scare you to death over "global cooling". When that failed, they switched it to "global warming". That didn't exactly take off, either. So today they're going with climate change. Anything to keep the grant money flowing.

They'll have to revert to global warming or global cooling in the coming years.

SALEM, Ore. — For Oregonians familiar with the state's ongoing educational woes, this information likely won't come as a surprise — a recent study by personal finance site WalletHub comparing school systems in each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia ranked Oregon among the worst in the country.

The WalletHub study compares school systems across a number of different categories, including performance, funding, safety, class size, and instructor qualifications. According to the study, Oregon had among the top three highest dropout rates in the nation, above only D.C. and New Mexico. 

Throwing more money at the problem - always the first "idea" that Oregon Democratics come up with - isn't going to fix the issues; this is endemic, and not something they can just buy their way out from under.

Which isn't to say that they won't keep trying....

 

Um, I Knew That. Sure Ya Did.

Climate change activists brought traffic to a standstill in the City of London today after mistakenly targeting a building which contains the offices of a leading renewable energy company.

One of the companies still based at 41 Moorgate is Statkraft, a Norwegian hydropower company which describes itself as “Europe’s largest generator of renewable energy”.

An employee at the company, who asked not to be named, said protesters had chained themselves to doors at the front of the building.

It might be a good idea for them to check their facts before staging a "protest", next time.

There were some 200 people involved in the fiasco; just the latest example of herd mentality in action.

 

 

Snow Days Are Outdated

(CNN)Technology disrupts everything, and now it's coming for beloved snow days.

Lawmakers in Pennsylvania have just greenlit a bill that would transform snow days into work-from-home days for students. Senate Bill 440 would create an opt-in program for school districts to establish "flexible instruction days," using technology to fill the gap rather than have students and teachers take the day off for inclement weather.

If districts choose to participate, young scholars will spend snowy days inside working on writing assignments and math problems, rather than building snowmen and pelting friends with snowballs.

 

Hmm. When I was a young'n, we didn't have snow days. You could have two or three feet of the stuff on the ground, and you still had to walk to school. The only kids who got snow days lived in outlying communities served by buses; no buses running, then they got snow days. My schools were located a mile and a mile and a half from home, respectively, which were considered within walking distance.

 

We still had snowball fights on the way to and from school, though.

 

It appears that times have changed.

 

Re-Education

Oregon Senate minority leader Herman Baertschiger said his caucus remains defiant in its efforts to stall proposed cap-and-trade legislation. "My caucus and I continue to stand firm and remain out of the state," he said, criticizing media reports that claimed Republican senators, who fled the capitol to avoid voting on the bill, have been coordinating with militia groups.

When Republicans voiced concerns to Democrats about the bill's economic consequences, Baertschiger said Gov. Kate Brown and Democratic state legislators scoffed. "We can re-educate them. They can get new green jobs," was the response from his Democratic colleagues to concerns workers may lose their jobs, according to Baertschiger.

They can't even educate kids in our schools, yet they believe they can "re-educate" productive adults and push them into "green" jobs? Democratics - mostly from out-of-state, like Kate - always seem to believe that they know what's best for the rest.

They are legends in what passes for their own minds.

 

The Kid Was Right - Got Booted Anyway

In Aberdeenshire, Scotland, a teen told his teacher there are only two genders.

The teacher didn’t agree.

As reported by the Daily Mail, the instructor had informed his class that a website which only allowed for two gender options was “old fashioned.”

The 17-year-old spoke up, claiming that male and female are the only two, biologically.

For taking a position that was “not inclusive,” he was kicked out of class.

How "inclusive" is that?

 

Speaking Of Climate Change, The Latest Target Is Cruise Ships

Climate activists using small boats and climbing equipment blockaded a cruise ship for six hours in a German harbour to protest against its carbon emissions, police said Monday. About 50 protesters with banners reading "Cruises kill climate" Sunday delayed the departure of the Zuiderdam, operated by Holland America Line, from the North Sea port of Kiel.

If an ordinary human is involved, it's bad for the environment. Unless those humans are protesters; then it's all fine.

Police detained 46 protesters, after which time the ship departed.

The average millennial has a net worth of $8,000, according to Business Insider. Apparently, that coveted barista job doesn't cut the mustard. Nor does that degree in Women's Studies. Bad choices, kids.

But at least they feel good about themselves....
